My first post here is about a technique that I love: stop motion! “PEN Story”, a movie created by the german agency DSG for the 50th year of camera Olympus E-PEN. They took 60,000 pictures and 9,600 of them were printed. After that, they took more 1.800 photos. Everything with no post-production.

Client: Olympus
Agency: DSG
Production: Big Fish
Director: Flo&Pete

The film directed by Pete & Flo tells us the life story of a man in stop motion. The film is fun and well produced. But has generated several comments on YouTube on its originality due to its resemblance to the movie “Wolf and Pig” by Takeuchi Taijin. I confess that at the first time I saw it I thought they were the same. Only after hearing a friend doing the same comment from the YouTube guys I started comparing the two films and checking if they were made by the same director. Was it certainly a “copy and paste” from the movie by Takeuchi ? Or he just have inspired them? What do you think?

If they really liked the first film so much why not calling the director of it to do their film? A beautiful example of it is the commercial for Coca-Cola “What goes around comes around” directed by Nagi Noda that had already done something similar in the video music “Sentimental Journey” for singer Yuki. The article in Creative Review, which is quite interesting, “The YouTube Dilemma” were about a few cases like these.

•

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •
