Coldplay :: Strawberry Swing
Coldplay launched, in his site, the video music for “Strawberry Swing” from the album “Viva La Vida”. Who signs the production and direction are the guys of Shynola, awarded in 2003 by the video music “Go With The Flow” for the Queens of the Stone Age, which won the Best Special Effects and was nominated as Best Art Direction, at MTV Video Music Awards. Known for his black humor Shynola got lighter for this video for Coldplay.
The clip shows Chris Martin as a super-hero in his adventure to save the princess. With a 2D animation with applications designed with chalk in the background, its used the same technique by Segundo de Chomón, which also appears in several other clips as the brilliant “Her Morning Elegance” by Oren Lavie, “Chasing Pavements” of Adele, the film “Sorry I’m Late” by Tomas Mankovsky and the Nike commercial for the XGames (which is produced a little different but it uses the same idea) and many others.
The two previous post of “Dreams of Flying” and “Les Kirikiri-Acrobats Japonais” was a preparation for this post. They showed from where, possibly, came some of the ideas, techniques, references and inspirations. And with “Strawberry Swing”, Shynola shows how to use the references and converting them into something new and fun.
The clip will be released for download on Parlophone on 14th September but you can see it in the site of Coldplay and Babelgum.

Coldplay lançou em seu site o clipe para música “Strawberry Swing” do álbum “Viva La Vida”. Quem assina a produção e direção são os caras da Shynola, premiados em 2003 pelo clipe “Go With The Flow” para o Queens of the Stone Age, onde ganharam como Melhor Efeitos Especiais e nomeados como Melhor Direção de Arte, pelo MTV Video Music Awards. Conhecidos pelo seu humor negro e seu lado mais dark representado por suas ilustras, pegaram mais leve nesse clipe do Coldplay.
O clipe nos mostra Chris Martin como um Super-herói em sua aventura para salvar a princesa. Com aplicação de uma animação 2D de fundo desenhada a giz, utilizam-se da mesma técnica, já dita aqui , de Segundo de Chomón, que aliás também aparece em vários outros clipes como o brilhante “Her Morning Elegance” de Oren Lavie, “Chasing Pavements” da Adele, o filme “Sorry I’m Late” de Tomas Mankovsky e o comercial da Nike para o XGames (que é produzido um pouco diferente mas utiliza-se da mesma idéia) e em muito outros.
Os dois post anteriores sobre “Dreams of Flying” e “Les Kirikiri-Acrobats Japonais” foram um preparatório para este do Coldplay. Eles mostram de onde, possivelmente, vieram um pouco das idéias, técnicas, referências e inspirações. E com o clipe “Strawberry Swing”, o pessoal da Shynola mostra como se utilizar bem das referências transformando-as em algo novo e divertido.
O clipe será lançado para download na Parlophone dia 14 de setembro mas já pode ser visto no site do Coldplay e no Babelgum.
