Website para o filme Nina (2004), dirigido por Heitor Dhalia. Frames do filme e ilustrações de Lourenço Mutarelli foram usadas no layout com tipografias desconstruídas + flashes das ilustrações e interferências gráficas para representar a característica do filme e do personagem Nina.

O site foi premiado com o bronze (Net Marketing – Promoção de produtos e serviços culturais) no VIII Prêmio ABOUT de Comunicação, 2004.

This installation called “The sound before you make it” by David Lawrey and Jaki Middleton is from 2005 but we can consider it today as a tribute to Michael.

This is a great idea. Remixing a scene from Michael Jackson’s Thriller, this work employs the technology of the zoetrope; animating three-dimensional figures via the sequencing of movement and a strobe light to create the illusion that the disk is stationary and the zombies are dancing.

Michael Jackson teve vários episódios bizarros durante sua carreira, principalmente no fim dela.  Mas não podemos esquecer que ele foi um dos grandes astros do pop mundial. Na minha opinião Michael era uma artista muito talentoso musicalmente e também dançava muito.  Pena ter perdido o foco em sua carreira e ter tido um fim tão trágico.

Esta instalação chamada “The sound before you make it” de David Lawrey e Jaki Middleton é de 2005 mas serve muito bem hoje como uma homenagem ao Michael.

A idéia é muito boa. Remixando uma cena de Thriller de Michael Jackson, este trabalho emprega a tecnologia da Zoetrope, animando figuras tridimensionais através do seqüenciamento de movimentos e uma luz estroboscópica para criar a ilusão de que o disco está parado e os zumbis estão dançando.

Chomón witnessed the birth of the cinematograph in 1896 during a stay in Paris. This Spanish man originating from Teruel quits his office job and starts working for George Méliès as a colorist. Chomón was expert in special effects and later he was hired by Pathé to direct a series of films based on special effects and meant to compete with those of Georges Méliès. He also contributed to set up a system of industrial coloring: the “Pathécolor”, after renamed to “Pathéchrome”.

In this 3 minutes film, well edited by Chomón, its shows a human pyramid formed by Japanese acrobats with their surreal stunts through his “special effect” or better say “trick”. And when the “trick” of Chomón is disclosed , the film becomes more interesting and funny and we started to see it with another eyes. For those who couldn’t see the Chomón’s effect, the tip is to take a look at the previous post about a serie of photographs called “Dreams of Flying” by Jon Van Holleben which also used the “trick” of Chomón.

Another interesting detail is that this film only existed in black and white version and it was colored by Helene Bromberg in the old fashion way, frame by frame, using as a color chart a 2-meter long fragment of the nitrate original, rediscovered in a private collection.

Esse filme de 1907, dirigido por Segundo de Chomón (1871-1929), é inspiração para muitos artistas até hoje, até mesmo para o coreógrafo francês Philippe Decouflé, como podemos ver nesse vídeo.

Chomón testemunhou o nascimento do cinema durante sua passagem por Paris em 1896. De origem espanhola, largou seu serviço para trabalhar para George Méliès como colorista. Chomón era especialista em efeitos especiais e depois foi contratado por Pathé , para dirigir uma série de filmes baseados em efeitos especiais com a intenção de competir com os filmes de George Méliès, onde  também contribuiu com a instalação do sistema de coloração industrial: “Pathécolor”, depois renomeado para “Pathéchrome”.

Nesse filme de 3 minutos, muito bem editado pelo próprio Chomón, ele nos mostra uma pirâmide humana formada por supostos acrobatas japoneses com suas acrobacias surreais através de seu “efeito especial” ou melhor dizer, do seu “truque”. E quando percebemos o “truque” de Chomón, o filme se torna mais interessante e engraçado e passamos a vê-lo com outros olhos. Para os que não visualizaram o “efeito” de Chomón, vai a dica do post anterior com a série fotográfica “Dreams of Flying” de Van Jon Holleben que também utiliza-se do “truque” de Chomón para fazer sua magia.

Outro detalhe interessante é que o filme só existia na versão Preto e Branco e foi colorido nos moldes antigos, frame a frame por Hélene Bromberg.
